Wicked cold here today |
Lead | ||
|
-2 when we got up to frozen pipes and no furnace. Seems that it also froze. Been out every couple of hours to make sure the horse as drinking water and not
ice. First bucketfull this morning was drunk down at once. She must have had her fill cause there's still water under the skim ice in the bucket. Giving
her a little extra hay to munch on too. Finally got heat around 10ish, but with it being forced hot air, it chills down right quick after it shuts off.. Water
was back on a little while before that. Hope everyone else has managed to stay warm.

Well, sometimes winters just suck!
Yesterday at 0730 in the morning it was -2°. All the chickens waterers were frozen, even those with heaters under them. Had to carry buckets of water from the spiket on the side of the house to the coop. Than the pond was frozen except for and area around the pump. I keep the pump running so that the ducks have some UN-frozen area to swim in, BUT they couldn't get to shore because of the ice, so I had to get a heavy duty steel rake and break up some ice up to 3 feet out from the bank. Now they can get out and get to their food. Today at 0730 it was 20°, (a heat wave) was suppose to warm up to 30°, but than the wind kicked up and the wind chill kept the temp at 20° or below that. Had to haul water again today for the chickens. The heat pump kicked into Aux. heat about 3 or 4 days ago and we shut the heat pump down and turned on the back up heat which is gas. My Dec. electric bill doubled, and we didn't even have any Christmas lights/decorations and I didn't do any heavy-all day baking, either. Our rates here in TN went up 20% in Oct. because of fuel cost adjustments!!! Soon we will be paying for that ash spill clean-up in East TN. What a mess that is!!!! BTW, some scientist has made the statement that because of global warming, the earth is entering a new ICE AGE for the next 100 years!!! Some will say anything to make a buck and get their faces on the TV!!!!!! I'm so looking forward to spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next month here, farmers begin getting their fields ready for planting.
They had a real tough time getting the soy beans in the ground this winter because of too much rain. Soon corn, beans, and other cool weather crops will be planted. I look forward to February...............Spring comes a wee bit sooner in the south, but we still have late freezes and frosts that can bite back all the plants and crops. Still its hopeful.........................since the winter solstice.........the days have been getting longer!

We had about 1/2 of ice and sleet last night and everything around here was shut down most of the day. Of course most Texans can't drive on the mess. The
worst are the supposed professionals(truck drivers) that say they drive on it all over the country.
God bless

It has been reallllly cold here also. We have had so much snow this year we were running out of places to put it. Then we had a little thaw that turned
everything into muck. Then...more snow. Yesterday it was so nice!! I stayed up after work and mucked the horse stall and took the horses blankets off. My horse
is so thin. I have fed him but he is losing weight. The vet will be here today to look at him. Hope it is just a feed problem..like maybe a good float will
help him. The horses and everyone loved the sun yesterday. I groomed and the horses laid their heads on my chest as I brushed. I finally got to go out without
being snuggled up in layers of camo. I could hear the neighbors kids playing outside and people were walking their dogs. I even opened the chooks door. They
didn't go out but took turns sitting in the open door. Today it is cold again. BRRR.
I can feel spring though!! I hope that stupid ground hog doesn't see his shadow because I so need it to be spring. PS sorry about the pipes Bob.
