Newbie with a coop

I decided to get some baby chicks for my 8 year old twins and let them show them in 4H possibly. I am new and had to get all the info I could from the internet and such. After seeing a lot of pictures of other coops I decided to try and build my own and this is what I came up with. I still need to add windows and finish the hardware cloth but it is basically done. Hi all, I just finished remodeling the inside of my coop.
The heater I had under my water barrel quit on me during the winter, and the pvc pipe cracked and dumped about 25 gallons of water into the bedding...and then froze.

Help! We are building our first coop and it is going quite well except there are a few things that have me scratching my head! We are building a coop 4ft by 5.5ft it is elevated 18" for additional run area underneath...there will be a 5x12ft run attatched to the back of the coop. We are planning on having 6-8 hens possibly up to 10 MAX. (famous last words) We will have standard breeds, dual purpose birds.

I saw a rat. Put out a live trap and caught him. Thought I was done. Saw another rat. FIL, DH and I went out at night to get rid of one I saw taking a drink from a waterer. We lifted up the little broody tractor...SIX. UGH. Stupid pellet gun wouldn't work. The next day we loaded down one of the runs with traps, sticky and snap traps as well as a live trap. It still needs some corner trim and paint, but the 4 hens & 3 ducks that share it don't seem to mind. I keep them separated for now, thats just till they get used to each other then the divider will come down.

I built a new coop! I used to have the small coopette, but now with four chickens I had to make a new home. This one's much bigger!

my new rabbits' hutch is made so perfectly for a little day time tractor for chicks. It it just fence wire the is cut and put together with some sort of metal fence connectors. it folds away when it needs to me moved or stored. the door is put on the same way.

then it unfolds into a rectange and has a base with grooves along the edges and it just slides down in them. Then the second layer is the same way except it has grooves on top and bottom so the next rectangle can go on top of...
